Explore backstage

We often experience culture as the finished item – a television programme, a book, an exhibition, or a podcast. But have you thought about what it takes to make these things? Get backstage to see how this is made?

Where to start

What are you interested in, and want to learn more about? Is this theatre, film, creating a visual artwork or writing a song? Who might you need to talk too to learn more?

Where in Southend might you go to do this? Could you go backstage at the Palace Theatre, or visit an artists’ studio, such as those at The Old Waterworks?

Do you know about all the different types of jobs it takes to make something creative? Think of the list of credits at the end of a film – what role do you want to play?
